Embezzlement is a form of securities fraud involving “ … illicit and unauthorized actions by brokers to steal directly from their clients. Such schemes may be facilitated by the forging of client documents, doctoring of account statements, unauthorized trading/funds transfer activities, or other conduct in breach of the broker’s fiduciary responsibilities to the victim client,” according to the FBI.

- Punishable by up to 10 years in prison
- Up to 7 years of probation

- Up to 5 years of probation
Class 4 felony: The embezzled property’s value is worth between $3,000 and $4,000, or the property was a vehicle engine or transmission (regardless of value)
